Hello to all attending the Queensland
Pylon Racing State Championships on 21st – 22nd of August
2010…
As we are expecting record entries for this event we have to
make sure that the event runs smoothly at a good steady pace
with the races and rounds flowing through as quick as we
can.
Race teams in their respected classes will need to be ready
to go when their races are called…
This event we will be running a “ready box”… We have
organised a “Pit Boss” to keep the pit box running smoothly…
If you are not ready to go when your race is called there is
a very good chance you will miss your race… In order to get
through all the racing we will need to keep the races
flowing…
If you intend on flying you will have to produce your
MAAA License when you nominate for your race class…
(NO LICENSE = NO FLY!!!) No exceptions will be taken into
consideration… if you don’t produce one you cannot fly…
Event Schedule:
All flying will be ceased at 8am Saturday morning…
Followed by a Pilots Briefing at 8:15am…
Racing Starts at 8:30am Sharp… When the rounds are called
for Q500 we will need the first planes ready and out to the
line straight after the Pilots Briefing…
All entries MUST be in by 8am for Q500 and F3D on the
Saturday Morning to have the draw ready on time…
Q500:
5 Rounds of Racing…
Will be running 4 planes in a race to keep the number of
races to a minimum…
This will take away valuable extra workers that we normally
have so please keep in mind we will need as many helpers as
we can get for this event…
Q500 will be run on the “Long Course”
F3D:
9 Rounds of Racing…
We will be running 3 planes in a race for safety reasons…
As this is a Team Selection Event for the World
Championships there will be 9 rounds of racing… Racing will
get under way as soon as the Q500 pilots have finished their
races and flow over into Sunday Morning…
Sunday Morning all pilots must be finished any practice
flying at 8am Sharp! Racing will start at 8:30am…
We are expecting a big turnout of F3D pilots so the Pit Boss
will be following up the racers to be ready for their round…
There are International racers attending this event as a dry
run to the World Championships next year at this same venue…
This will increase the F3D numbers so there should be ample
time between rounds to have your planes ready and in the
ready box when called…
F400:
9 Rounds of Racing…
F400 will also be running 4 planes per race to get through
the rounds a quick as possible…
As we will have International competitors for this event it
has been decided to run the extra rounds to allow for more
racing for the visitors… This also allows more racing for us
as well… Again there will be a ready box that will be used
to keep the races turning over smoothly…
QE46:
5 Rounds of Racing…
QE46 will be running 4 planes per race… As you will already
be used to the ready box there shouldn’t be any problems
here…
This will be the last event for the weekend…
Friday & Saturday Night Dinners:
There has been a table booked for Friday Night at the
“Indian Curry Bazaar & Takeaway”… All are welcome to attend…
If you are interested in attending please call them on 07
4151 1555 to book your table…
The venue is at 1/12 Heidke St in Bundaberg… (Near Macas)
There has also been a table booked for Saturday Night at the
“Thai Tulips” Restaurant… Again if you wish to attend please
call them on 07 4153 1881 to book your table…
The venue is at 47 Takalvan St in Bundaberg…
Bundaberg Club:
Catering will be available from the canteen as usual… These
guys really turn it on for us there… With a variety of
excellent food and drinks available for breakfast & lunch… I
think they usually turn on a great breaky on the Saturday
Morning too so don’t miss out on that…
Remember to support the local club as they do go to a lot of
trouble for us when we go there…
Lastly I would like to emphasise the
need for workers for this event… as we know many hands makes
light work…
Also please be early and be ready on time…
And may you all have a successful weekend of Racing…
If you have any questions please call me on 0413 513 060 or

It has come to our attention that the
recently announced Federal Election just happens to be on
the Saturday of out State Championships...
All those that are eligible to vote
should organise their vote prior to the event... a postal
vote should clear this up...
Photo of Q500 Pylon Freaks at Maryborough! Only 2 people
missing from this picture are Mark Hamilton and Danny
Giles... (Apparently they were scared of the camera) lol
(More Pickies in the Photo Gallery)
Q500 at
Maryborough at this event was far better than the last one
where next to no one showed up... I put this down to lack of
communication on my part by not pushing the event enough
which caught a few people out by forgetting the event was
on... Not in this case however...
Yesterdays racing was
excellent! We had Dave and his Dad drive all the way
down from Rockhampton with V-Guns to race in both the
AUSQ500 & FAIQ500 Classes... and Tim who drove all the way
up from the south of Brisbane (Not sure where he normally
resides) with his V-Gun for the AUSQ500 Class...
We also had the regular twosome
from down south in the form of Tony Singleton and "Smok'n"
Joe Luxford... these guys really are dedicated and enjoy
their racing
The weather was perfect (as you
can see in the photo above) with blue skies and a light
breeze coming straight down the course...
Racing started at 10am due to a
lazy start to setting up the equipment and test flying
etc... One of the reasons for the delay was to ascertain the
abilities of Boof's son Heath (SID)... SID has never flown a
Q500 model as he has only not long learnt to fly... He has
been wanting to try racing for a while but we needed to know
if he would be comfortable flying a Q500 model around the
course while flying safely... SID did very well to fly the
V-Gun I won the AMPRA Champs Q500 with... (It was his plane
I used)
After a couple of test /
tuition flights we gave him the go-ahead to race... Haven't
seen a smile that big in a long time!!!
Bruce called for him to help
get him on his way with learning the ropes so to speak...
Considering it was his first ever race he did very well...
ad we commented on how long it would take to catch up with
his dad and kick his butt!!! Dad recons that will be
the day!!! lol
Dave (aka Crockhunter) also ran
his new FAIQ500 with a short stroke Nelson on the nose of
it... if anyone has a short stroke Nelson they have no use
for I suggest you bolt it onto one of these things... it was
in no way non competitive and Dave managed to pick up a
second place for his first attempt by not cutting... (Sound
Familiar?)
At the end of the day the
racing was great... and the social side with the getting
together with like minded pylon freaks was great too!
Next
event is the State Championships at Bundaberg on August 21st
- 22nd...
Next
Q500 event in Maryborough is September 18th...
At the Rockhampton meeting (AGM) it was
decided to run the F400 Class with .40 sized engines at
Queensland race events...
However as the State Championships are
sanctioned by MAAQ the rules for the F400 will be run to the
Australian Rules... This means that the .46 sized engines
will be allowed to be used for State Championships...
All other events run under QMARA will
continue to be restricted to the .40 sized engines...
As an added notice the Nationals at
Dalby between Christmas and New Year will be run by QMARA
but being a National event the F400 class will also have to
run under the Australian Rules...
04-07-2010
Event Schedule for the Queensland State
Championships on the 21st - 22nd of August...
Saturday 8:30 start
Q500 long course 5 Rounds
Saturday from end of Q500 to close F3D 7 rounds
Sunday 8:30 F3D 2 rounds
Followed by F400 5 rounds
Followed by QE46 5 rounds short course
With only 2 days to run all the classes
we still need to achieve 9 rounds of F3D... This is a team
selection event for the World Championships in Bundaberg
2011...
Nominations for Q500 and F3D will need
to be in by 8am Saturday Morning...
Nominations for F400 and QE46 will also need to be in by 8am
Sunday Morning...
Pilots Briefing at 8:15am
29-06-2010
The next racing event for Queensland is
July 17th at Maryborough... This is a Q500 event only...
there has been good interest in the FAIQ500 class and is
starting to become quite popular... (Except for the last
event) lol
The events aren't catered for but we do
supply an esky of cold drinks... The cost for entry is only
$10.00 per event... at this stage all pilots are welcome to
race both classes if they wish as long as we have the man
power to run the timing equipment etc...
Click on the picture below to show the
Event Flyer...
QMARA has invested in a new laptop to
run our timing equipment... as many of you would already
know of the issues we were having with the old laptop we
were using... this has been a topic of discussion for quite
a while and it was time to do something about it with our
State Championships coming up...
Kevin Callow has the new laptop already
tested and working with the QMARA timing system so all is
looking good for our State Champs to go off without any
problems in that area... (Touch Wood)
Thankyou Kev for the time and effort
you have put into our timing system...

Race report for the Q500's at
Maryborough...
Well... Ummm... Not much to report
actually as the day was classed as a "Non-Event" due to lack
of numbers...
I would like to thank Joe Luxford and
Tony Singleton that did turn up... Joe and Tony took the
opportunity to get some practice in for the next event
though... They had the field to themselves so they got
plenty done...
Joe has taken the step up to the
FAIQ500 Class with a new JETT Q500 Motor that he was running
in... Welcome to the Club Joe...
The next Q500 Event at Maryborough is
on July 17th... (Event
Schedule) Hope to see everyone that has a Q500 attend...
22-06-2010
Just a reminder for those that are
getting itchy fingers that the 3rd round of the Maryborough
Q500 Series is on this Saturday the 26th of June... Come and
have some fun with the Q500's only... New comers that are
interested are most welcome and are encouraged to give pylon
racing a try... We are here to help you if you would like to
give it a go!
Hope to see a good turn out for this
event... remember it's still 7 - 8 weeks before our state
champs in Bundaberg... Keep your skills up to scratch with
no better practice than racing!

AMPRA 2010 is now gone... It was good
to see many familiar faces from the Queensland crowd...
It was cold down there... Although
there were many that said that they could never remember it
being so warm there... I think on the Monday morning it was
back to normal though as there was much ice on tables and
covering the grass...
The trip for me was not the perfect way
to start the weekend... Running out of fuel about 25k's
south of Mooree on Thursday morning...
4 hours later I was under way again...
all alone... by myself... with all my friends... It works
out that my fuel gauge that has never given me a false
reading for the past 7 years had decided to play a nasty
trick on me... So trusting what the fuel gauge said I
figured I had enough to reach the next town... (Just for the
record that ended up a VERY bad decision)
The Friday practice went without any
trouble at all... it was a great start to the weekend as it
usually does for me... However Saturday morning would prove
to be my worst run of bad luck I have had since starting in
F3D... I had the pressure nipple come loose in the pipe as
well as glow plug issues with flame outs in the air... Other
than that I was happy to get a personal best time of
58.88... With 32 competitors it was the biggest field that I
had competed in...
For reference for times and places it
looks like Glenn Mathews has posted the results...
HERE
There were plenty that were going
fast... I think it came down to who flew safe and getting
some reasonable times on the board... Congrats to the top
place getters... and for those that should have done better
you have 2 more chances to get the results you are after...
Q500 on the Sunday Afternoon was a
rather small turnout to what I thought might have been
there... With only 9 entries it wasn't as big of field as we
normally get on a normal race weekend... So for the Aussie
Champs I thought it was a bit weak... Might have been the
cold that chased people away?... Still, it was a good event
and had a bit of fun trying to get the tune right on my O.S...
Quarter Midget was fiercely fought out
in between the Q500 rounds... We up here in the sunshine
state don't get to see these angry little animals in
action... and the little planes they fly are just as
entertaining... hehe...
Basically these are more or less a
miniature F3D... they even sound almost the same!
These little beasties scream around the short course in
under 60 seconds... Almost worth having a go at them if I
was going to fly one more than once a year... Oh well...
I'll stick to the new FAIQ500's we are racing instead...
Formula 400 on the Monday proved to be
very competitive... Nathan Nicols with a JETT .40 was
keeping up with the big bore Nelson's respectively doing a
couple of 63's... Both Terry and Bruce put in times in the
61's... Unfortunately for Bruce is excitement was
extinguished when he found out that Terry had already done a
61 and was faster than his... Terry claimed a new Australian
Record for the F400's with that effort... Congrats on the
record and the F400 event win Terry...
Next AMPRA we will all be limited to
the .40 sized engines in the F400's... Did I mention the
JETT .40 was keeping up with the Big Bore Nelsons? Oh that's
right I did... Just making sure you were all paying
attention...
For my first trip to Cohuna I can only
say that it was an experience... Things could have gone
better but on the bright side it could have been much
worse!!! I could have had the problems Bruce did...
The Hotel room was a blast from the
70's but the bed was comfortable... It was good to get
together with friends and like minded people, for me always
one of the draw cards to any pylon racing event... Sometimes
the social part of the weekend is the best part...
Next AMPRA will be in Grafton in NSW
which for me will still be a 7 hour drive there and back but
for the this kind of event it is worth it...
For those that are interested or might
even care?... I had no problems getting home... it appears
that when you are aware your fuel gauge being faulty you
cautiously fill up at regular stops along the way... Car is
in to get fuel gauge fixed very soon...
